Network operator Fluvius installs 1.5 millionth digital meter in Flanders
Grid operator Fluvius has reached a new milestone: in Tongeren, the 1.5 millionth digital energy meter in Flanders has been installed at a single-family home that is currently being renovated.
Almost 25 percent of Flemish households now have a digital meter.
Street by street
Since July 1, 2019, Fluvius has only been installing digital meters for electricity and gas. For new construction or renovations, this is done by technicians from the grid operator. In addition, since the beginning of 2021, three contractor groups - 3DM, Unit-T and TEAPlus - have also been responsible for the geographical rollout of the meters in existing homes. In doing so, they are replacing the meters municipality by municipality and street by street. I have already installed hundreds of digital electricity and gas meters, from Dilsen-Stokkem to Voeren,' explains Sébastien Ansquer, technician at Fluvius. In the meantime, the general public has also become very familiar with them. What I've noticed is that more and more customers ask me during the installation of their digital meter how they can better monitor their electricity and gas consumption and thus consume less. This is undoubtedly a consequence of the sharp increase in energy prices and media attention for the imminent energy transition.'Shortly after the digital meter has been installed, Flemings can consult their consumption history free of charge on the customer portal mijn.fluvius.be. This allows citizens to see exactly how much electricity they are consuming per quarter of an hour and how much gas they are consuming per hour. Ansquer: 'This allows you to detect the big "guzzlers" in your energy consumption. You can even link apps to your digital meter with which you can start to control your consumption.'
