This was the 24 hours iLumen European Solar Challenge 2022
Already for the sixth time, the 24 Hours iLumen European Solar Challenge (iESC), the only 24-hour race for solar cars, took place at Circuit Zolder. It was an edition not soon to be forgotten....
Thus, on Friday, September 16, none other than His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium came to take a look behind the scenes. Our monarch attended a presentation by President Frans-Joseph Joosten and Vice-President Ismaël Ben-Al-Lal who explained the rich history of the iESC. His Majesty then stopped by the Belgian Agoria Solar Team. Amid massive press interest, the monarch rounded off his visit to Circuit Zolder by completing a lap of the circuit as a passenger in Solar Team Eindhoven's car.
Infosessions and Greenville
One day later, the actual solar car race started at 1 p.m. under extremely changeable weather conditions. In addition, iLumen organized the information session "How to make the sun always shine in times of high energy prices" at the Congress Center of Circuit Zolder. In addition to our own energy consultants, guest speakers Peter van Strydonck (Fluvius) and Dirk Van Evercooren (ODE Vlaanderen) gave highly appreciated presentations on current topics in the solar energy sector.
In addition, the numerous interested parties who showed up in renewable energy village Greenville were able to ask all their questions of the Energy Advisors from iLumen and other exhibitors present.
The big winner of the 24 Hours iLumen European Solar Challenge was the Sonnewagen Aachen team, which took first and second place with the Covestro Photon and Covestro solar cars. Solarteam Twente completed the podium with the Red E. Due to battery problems, the Belgian Agoria Solar Team could never really compete for victory. They eventually finished in seventh place. In the Cruiser class, victory went to the Polish team from Lödz.
iLumen wishes to sincerely thank all visitors present for contributing to this unforgettable weekend!
